♥ PROM - Class of 2008 ♥

Hello everyone, I am bursting with the excitement of writing this post!!
This friday, 10th May was my year 11 leaver's Prom and it was the most perfect day of my life!

The first half of this phenomenal day was very emotional, I left school. After 5 years of memories it was time to say goodbye to everyone I had shared my life with over this life-changing half decade. It was unbelievably sad, these people I had grown up alongside and shared my most amazing memories with! It was lovely morning of signing shirts and yearbooks and a touching assembly where Kyesha made me cry with this stunning performance - ♥ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQHOnAH-RLM ♥

Crying out the way- it was time to get ready for prom!!!! I had 6 hours of prepping to do!

I went and had my hair higlighted and styled at my hair salon, the way I decided from my last post (http://jess-la-vie.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/prom-hair.html) and then I did my own makeup as I wanted it to be as natural as possible.
I wore:
♥ Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation in 201 Classic Beige
♥ Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in 040 Soft Beige
♥ Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette in Crave (on my brows)
♥ Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette: Walk Of Shame on my lid, Naked 2 in my crease, Faint in my outer corner and Venus in my inner corner.
♥ Barry M Wink Marker Pen for Eyes (Eyeliner)
♥ Maybelline New York Rocket Volum' Express Waterproof in Black
♥ MAC Pressed Powder in Forever Marilyn (from the Marilyn Monroe line)
♥ Natural Collection Bronzer in Sunshine
♥ The Colour Workshop Blush in Blush
♥ Burt's Bees Lip Balm in Original (Vitamin E and Peppermint)

♥ My dress was from Browns and co http://www.brownsandco.com/ in Watford , a store which sells prom and bridesmaid dresses and it was a floor length Magenta gown with a sweetheart neckline and diamante detailing.
♥ My accessories (bracelet, hair piece and earings) were from Claire's
♥ My ring was from New Look
♥ My shoes and clutch were from Next

My 6 best friends met at my house for photos, drinks and snacks before Prom. It was lovely to share my night with 6 of the most beautiful and trustworthy girls I know!

Luckily the weather held of perfectly and we got our Limo to prom wit no troubles! The limo drive was perfect - we each made a speech about how much we love each other and I felt truly privileged to have 6 of the most amazing girls I know as best friends.

We arrived at school to be greeted by hundreds of people! Getting out of the Limo was unbelievably nerve wracking, I felt sick! However, we quickly met our Limo full of boys at the top of the the steps and I felt overwhelmed with adrenaline and happiness as I spotted my friends and family amongst the crowd - We actually felt like celebrities! We made our way up to the red carpet and into prom, it was perfect!

Prom it's self was a magical night and it was amazing to share such a memorable evening with the people I love the most! The whole year looked stunning and it was definitely the perfect end to an unbelievable 5 years together!

If your prom is coming up I hope you have the most amazing night! It is a night you will never forget! Thank you to everyone who made this night special and good luck to you all class of 2008 in your exams!

See you soon

♥ Prom Hair! ♥

I AM SO EXCITED. It is now exactly 6 days until PROM!!!

As I go to school in England, we don't have annual proms like the do in America, we just have one at the end of high school and then again at the end of sixth form; and next Friday, 10th May is my year 11 leaver's prom!

Prom is a very exciting time and one thing I was really puzzled over, was how I was going to style my hair for prom. My dress is a strapless, magenta, chiffon ball gown with a sweetheart neckline, so I wanted something to match that air of style.

So, yesterday, I went to my hair dresser where we tried out several different hair styles and managed to come up with one for prom!!

The first style I went for was a half up, half down style with the hair twisted to make a bow detailing and the rest of the hair curled.

The second style was twisted and pinned to one side, and although I wanted something simple to compliment the dress, i thought this was too simple for me.

The third style was another 'one side' style but this time I had the back of the hair plaited into a french braid. I liked this style, but it made me feel my hair was too short and again I felt it was too plain.

In the end I went for this style - a half up half down with a raised, backcombed section and curls. I liked this because it complimented the length of my hair as well as being simple yet pretty. I added this silver diamante flowered clip to give a bit of detail and over all I am really pleased with the style I chose.

Are you celebrating your prom this year? If you are, share you hair ideas with me and we can all share ideas and inspire each other, as choosing hair styles was really difficult!

Enjoy what ever you are doing, and I will post a post next weekend about the outcomes of my actual prom! So excited!!

Ciao

♥ Motivational Moment ~ SUMMER BUCKET LIST! ♥

Hello guys, today my motivational mind has brought me to my blog!

I guess you probably know I'm studying for my GCSE exams at the moment (hence why I haven't had the time to post much!). They are super close now - like scarily scarily close!! 16 days to be exact!

What you probably don't know about me (unless you know me), is that I suffer with panic and anxiety from time to time. This started last summer when I did my first set of modular GCSE exams and has kind of continued since. Although, I will admit it has improved greatly since last year, as before Christmas I couldn't even go to school or get on a sodding train without a panic attack! I am extremely proud of how far I have come (thanks to zoella), and although it's nowhere near as bad now, I still carry out little regimes to minimize worry so that it doesn't come back!

One of the things I decided to do this morning, as I was copying up my exam timetable. I realised I needed something to look forward to, and what's better to look forward to than 2 and a half months of summer break?!? So I came up with this - my summer bucket list! A short list of things I'd like to do this summer!
I'm sure I'll add to it as more come into my head and I'd love to keep it as part of my blog to record and update you on how these things are going! (I'm thinking of making it like a series of blog posts througout the summer? Any snazzy ideas for a name for the series - comment!)

Here goes:

☼ complete my wreck this journal

☼ all-nighter with my besties
☼ tie dye a t shirt
☼ visit Paris
☼ visit Brighton
☼ go shopping in Bicester

☼ have a tour of Buckingham palace
☼ have a cream tea and pimms party
☼ blog blog blog!

Like I said, that is just a few of the ideas I have for this summer! What are you doing with your friends? Comment below and maybe give me a few ideas to add my my list!! Also comment series names - make em snazzy!

♥ See you as soon as I can (hopefully with a prom post?!), and I wish you all the best of luck in any exams you may be taking too!♥

♥ What I got for my Birthday ♥

As I promised, here it is... the infamous 'What I got for my Birthday post'

My 16th Birthday was Wednesday 27th of February and I had a lovely day with all my friends and family! I enjoyed a lovely day (is that acceptable?) at school and then a nice bitta' cake with my family and bestie chums and then a meal at TGI Fridays with my family and boyfriend. These lovely people who made my day ever so special also suprised me with some lovely gifts that I wanted to share with you! As you all probably know from reading similar posts on other blogs this is not me bragging about anything I recieved. Purely, I wanted to write this post to share gift ideas with others and to thank my lovely loved ones for their amazing generosity! If this is not your thing, you are very much invited to click the 'x' now! You've been warned haha!

iPhone 5

My 'main present' if you will, was the iPhone 5. Thank you to my lovely mummy and daddy for this! It just so happened that the renewal of my phone contract coincided with my 16th birthday so I was so surprised when my parents said I could have this beauty! It's wonderful! After struggling through 2 years of 'shitberry', pardon the language, I was thrilled to recieve a phone that didn't fall to pieces in my hand! I love my iPhone as it means I can do all my social media bits and bobs on the go - including instagram which I am OBSESSED with - find me here: jessgrimmel!

Topshop Haul-a-roonie

Anyone who knows me will know that I have an incy-wincy obsession with topshop - I don't know what it is about that store but I find their clothes extremely flattering and I can always find something to fit my style! (I'm not going to lie, topshop is known for being quite 'out there', but I'm talking about the relatively simple pieces okay!)

I am a self-confessed utter nerd I must say, so it did make me chuckle when I recieved these tees from topshop! The first one was from my nanny and pops, it's a grey oversized tee with cuffed short sleeves from the brand 'tee and cake' at topshop. It says genius on the front using symbols from the periodic table - how suave! I got this in a size 'S' and it is quite oversized on me (a usual size 6 or 8 in topshop's clothes) but I really like this tshirt! The material is incredibly soft!

The second one was this dork shirt. I'm not gonna go into this as everyone has seen the geek ones (which I also own). This was from my parents and I love this also. Again this was a size S/M which was the smallest they did and again I find that this is very oversized. However, I like to tuck it in to leggings or disco pants and  I think it looks less like a tunic, haha!

I also received these two cropped lace shirts from topshop which I had been eyeing up for a while and I absolutely love these (as you can see, I bought all the colours haha!) They look great with highwaisted disco pants or shorts and can easily be dressed up or down. The only problem I found with these was the sizing. Before I purchased these (I went to the store to get them with my mum), I was reading the reviews on the topshop website and everyone was commenting on how the sizing came up extremely small and it was recommended to buy 1 or 2 sizes bigger than you usually are in the store. When I tried this on, I found that was extremely true! I tried on an 8 but found although it fitted fine, the arms were quite tight and noone likes to feel constricted haha! So I purchased both of these in a 10. Keep sizing in mind when trying these, don't be down heartened if you have to go for a couple of sizes larger than normal, it's worth it!

American Apparel!

My nanny must have been on an American Apparel spree - coolest nan ever, as she bought me these beauties. The american apparel hair bow in large, black velvet which is amazing. I saw these in macbarbie07's youtube videos and I think they are the cutest way to style your hair.
I also received the American Apparel nail laquer in 47189 'Neon Violet'. This immediately caught my eye as it is the exact same colour as my prom dress and I adore this bright pop of colour! It's going to be perfect with spring and summer coming up. Thank you Nanny!

Bit of a sing-a-long!

Every girl loves a good showtune! (Well, not every girl, but I certainly do!). I have wanted this for ages so was thrilled when my mummy bought me this! 'Now that's what I call musicals' - 40 tracks from some of the biggest west end musicals - my showers will never be the same again!

Birthday Reads!

I have already informed you of my utter geekiness so these bad boys were at the top of my birthday list this year!
- 'It's kind of a funny story' by Ned Vizzini
- 'The fault in our stars' by John Green
-'The perks of being a wallflower' by Stephen Chbosky
-'14,000 things to be happy about'

I was excited to receive these after reading amazing reviews on all of them! I am definitely going to review them here on my blog once I have read them - I'm excited to start!!

Birthday Beauty Products!

This excited me immense amounts! My gorgeous best friend Sianie bought me this!!! The urban decay 'NAKED basics' palette. I have been swooning over the urban decay palettes for a very long time so I was just slightly excited to receive this (I sort of jumped on Sian...). I am soo excited to try this out and will definitely be reviewing that on here at some point!

I wanted to share this one with you as I thought it was SUCH a great idea and so thoughtful! My other bestie Jacqueline bought me this - a coupon for a manicure and hand massage at our local salon! I am so excited to go and redeem this in the summer! What an interesting and thoughtful gift for someone who loves beauty like I do - thank you Jacqueline!

Now this is my favorite perfume ever and I was lucky enough to receive this from my beautiful boyfriend. The 'fantasy' fragrance by Britney Spears. I am a huge fan of all the Britney 'fantasy' range of fragrances - they all are sweet smelling, long lasting and I always receive compliments when I wear them! However, this is definitely my favorite of all her scents. I love this so much!

Thank you so much to everyone for all the lovely gifts and for making my birthday so special. I hope you have enjoyed this post and it has hopefully given you some gift ideas to surprise you friends or family! See you soon xxx

♥ Sweet Sixteen! ♥

Hello chummies of the blogosphere! It's been a long time, what a sham I am, I know! In my first (and may I confess, last.. oops!) blogpost, I did ramble on about how I had made a new years resolution to write this blog and la-di-da.. but oh my WHERE DID JANUARY AND FEBRUARY GO?! I could swear it was like 10 days ago I was eating chocolate snowmen and enjoying a good ol' frolic in the snow with Michael Buble... but no... it seems now spring is upon us and I haven't written one single blog post!

I don't know if you are like me and you have those moments where you think 'I'm not really doing anything interesting with my life?'. See personally, I must admit I am one of those people who sits and watches people and thinks 'Man, I wish I could do that'. I have ALWAYS wanted to be a blogger, and today as I sit here off school with the sniffles, I have been reading many blogs and I am inspired... which is why I have dusted off this old blog... I WILL BLOG! Think of this as 'I have a dream' with a bit less politics involved.

♥ I TURNED 16 ♥

Many things have occured during my 2 months absence... 2 months is a long time! However, the most exciting shennanigan was my 16th birthday! Yes... 16!! To most of you reading this, you're probably thinking I'm just a foteus, but to me, 16 seemed like a milestone in life - I mean, I can now legally do many adult things! Today I got a letter about credit cards and cheque books... come on, I'm practically 40 now! What really scared me, was the fact that I am now closer to 20 than I am to 10... that makes me feel like I have to grow up!! This age advancement is part of the reason I decided to return to my blog as I really felt I would like to document life from here on out!

I had a lovely time celebrating my 16th with my beautiful friends and family and I got some lovely things that I am going to do a blog post on! 'What I got for my birthday' will be up soon!

Once again, apologies for the absence, I attempt to be back on form shortly! Damn you GCSEs!!

Ciao
